Bloggy Giveaways Carnival

Yea! It's Bloggy Giveaway time!

I entered lots of giveaways last time, but {sigh} didn't win anything. I also didn't have a giveaway. But I do this time.

I'm giving away an autographed copy of Liz Curtis Higgs' book, Embrace Grace.

I've got a copy which I'm reading right now. It's easy to read and the chapters aren't very long. I'm reading about a chapter a night before bed. I'm not a great reviewer so here is what Liz's website says about the book.

"Embrace Grace offers hope for all of us who long to let go of guilt and embrace the boundless freedom God's grace offers.
Liz Curtis Higgs speaks directly to the hearts of her readers in an engaging and deeply personal way. Page by page, she conveys a simple, powerful message of encouragement, showing women how to accept the gift of divine forgiveness, step by gentle step, and release lingering doubts, fears, and regrets.
Wherever you are in your spiritual journey, Embrace Grace will help you move forward with joy and confidence!"

You can read more about it on her website http://www.lizcurtishiggs.com/waterbrook/Embrace/Embrace%20Grace.htm

So what do you have to do to enter my giveaway? Well... I'm glad you asked. I drink bottled water on a daily basis so I was thinking, there has to be some sort of craft or nifty idea to reuse all these water bottles other than just recycling. So, to enter my giveaway, leave me a post with an idea for reusing water bottles. Contest ends Friday, February 1 at 5 p.m. CST. I'd love to run it through Sunday, but I'll be out of town. I will ship to anywhere so feel free to enter.

The winning entry will be drawn and I'll announce the winner on Friday night. If you don't have a blog be sure to leave a way I can contact you.

To see other giveaways you can click on the link to the right.

Good Luck and come back and visit sometime!

Can't think of a way to use those bottles except to fill them with other liquids, or juices, or even water. Maybe you could freeze all the water ones and use for ice in a cooler?

Please enter me in your give away. Thanks!

I have to be honest, I am not a crafty person and at the moment can't think of a way to reuse them. To me, there are far too many to reuse. Hopefully, they are truly recycled and made to make outdoor furniture that I have heard about. Thanks for a fun contest. Cindi

To reuse - cut the tops off, cover them with fabric and use them as pen tubs. Fill them with rice or lentils, seal them well and use them as shakers. Fill them with water and use them as hand held weights for keep fit stuff.

The only way I can think of to use the bottles is to fill them with birdseed, cut an opening, and hang them from the branches for the birds and squirrels.

What do I do with my water bottles? I refill them for my kids to take on the run. Then we recycle. I am definitely craft challenged!
Thanks!

This looks GREAT!!! Please enter me!!! Thank you soo much!

Let's see...a way to reuse water bottles....fill up with more water or beverage of your choice to freeze and drink on a hot day...sand art....if you save enough of them...you could use them as pins for bowling!!! LOL

Unknown said...

Just FYI- you shouldn't reuse them for drinking too many times, as the plastic can breakdown and eventually becomes unsafe. So, I would recommend peeling the labels off, and replacing them with some cute scrapbooking paper, and setting a few on a window ledge with single flowers!
The book looks great!

What a nice book! I'd love to check it out.

Water bottles.. we used to put small rocks in them, put the lid back on and give them to the dog to play with! they loved the noise they made and they'd play with them for weeks before they were too messed up and needed to be recycled. Now, though.. I have a Great Dane and she could just eat them, so I haven't done it in a while!

My grandpa used to somehow put a wire hook through the lid to hand on a tree branch, cut decorative curvy slits on the sides (vertical not horizontal), paint little designs on the bottle, and then hang it up for a neat little wind toy thing. Make sense?

We purchased a Pur water filter to reuse our plastic bottles. When the bottles get too yucky, we recycle.

Turn the lids into "pendant" necklaces for the kids. Have them paint the lid and insert a little picture or photo. Drill a hole in the top and attach to a chain.

Cut the top off and us as a mini planter

GREAT giveaway! I hope I'm the lucky winner!! :)

you can cut them in 1/2 and use the bottom portion to start your seedlings for your garden.

recycle the top portion.

you can also fill them 3/4 with water and freeze them.. and use to keep things cool in your cooler -- the ice will melt in the bottle ..ice melts all in your cooler and gets everything soaking wet.

fill with water and use them to fill the chinks in your freezer to keep it running efficiently.

hang strips of reflective material from them and hang in your garden to scare the birds away

use for storing buttons, beads and other little crafty things

very nice giveaway! please throw my name into the hat too......good luck everyone!

I'd love to read this book. We've gone green and don't use those bottles anymore, but when we did, we'd fill them with water, freeze, and use as ice packs. Also, we'd cut two pinholes in the plastic and sit in a plant and it would be a watering can.

Shannon said...

Hmmm...I don't drink water from water bottles...so I haven't had to think anything useful for them, thus far.

How about cutting a hole in the middle, filling it with birdseed and hanging it from a tree? You could have a whole tree just covered with hanging birdfeeders :)

I saw someone fill one up with Christmasy stuff like confetti and stickers, and mail it off to a neice. As long as you use a mailing label, it's fine in the US Mail.

They make great shakers, just fill with rice or beans. Thanks for the giveaway.

Teri said...

Do you have little ones? You could fill them with sand and put in tiny items (one bottle for each letter of the alphabet) for each alphabet letter. For example, in the A one, put in an apple-shaped eraser, an A-shaped bead, an acorn, an alligator toy & an astronaut. Seal it tightly (glue it shut w/ hot glue) and then give it to the kids to roll & shake and identify the objects!

Carolynn said...

A few years back we cut off the bottom on the bottles, filled it with potpourri and then glued a thin lace over the opening. Then we decorated it with ribbons and flowers and added a magnet to the bottom so we could stick it onto the fridge. It freshens the room with a nice smell and is very cute!
Thank you for the chance to win the book...i would love to read it!

I happen to save my plastic bottles to winter sow my seeds. After Dec 31 I cut the bottle in half then put enough dirt in my bottles to plant my flower or veggie seed. After planting my seeds I use duct tape or packaging tape to seal where I cut the bottle. Then I just place outside and let mother nature take care of it. You can find more about it here http://faq.gardenweb.com/faq/wtrsow/ Thank you for hosting this great giveaway!

Thanks again!

don't reuse them as water bottles - very dangerous! i'd cut the tops off (in half if big ones) and grow plants in them!

I'd say either make a bird feeder out of it that you can hang from a tree or cut it to plant seedlings in.

i reuse water bottles for water! also, i keep them by my bedside so in the morning, when my baby comes in to wake me, he can play with them and bounce them off my head. it's lots of fun for him. not so much for me.

Please enter me! ernestsgirl82@aol.com My husband could tell you how to make an exploding bottle out of it. (Boys will be boys!)

I make "find it" bottles for my kids and their friends. Fill the bottle about halfway with sand, tiny beads or rice. Then add a handful of objects to look for: safety pin, jingle bell, penny, thumbtack, rubber band, ribbon, etc. Hot glue the top on and see who can find all the items first! Thanks for the contest!

Tanya said...

Recycle them? And then buy a reusable bottle, preferably stainless steel that doesn't leach anything into your water. :)

Joanna said...

You could fill them with dried beans and use them with the kids at church as musical instruments. You could also fill them half up with oil (vegetable or canola) and fill the other half with food-coloring died water. You have an instant, temporary lava lamp!

tub toys. Kids love scooping and pouring.

Brandie said...

How to reuse plastic bottles? Well, I guess I'd say buy something that can be washed and reused to drink out of.
I suppose though, you could fill them with sand/water and use them as bowling pins to entertain children? You might be able to cut them in half and use the bottom half to grow some herb out of. Hmm ... not really sure what else to do with them frankly. We stopped using them a while ago here though and I haven't looked back once!

Anyway, the book looks so good so please count me in the drawing! Thanks so much =)

donate them to a local school or preschool to use as craft supplies?

Please count me in! Thanks!

I saw this idea off the internet. Cut off the top of the water bottle with the opening. You can make cheap candle holders. Never tried it. But the theory seem sound.

Anyway, great giveaway, thanks for hosting it!

I didn't win anything in the other 2 big giveaways either :) I saw a cute craft of turning an empty water bottle into a snowman. Can't remember where, probably family fun. I'd also recommend buying an aluminum water bottle, so you don't have so many plastic bottles :)

They an be used as piggy banks. cut a small slot in the side near the top to drop the coins in. You can decorate the ouside using markers or construction paper with drawings on them. Me and my girls like to do that. We once did it at a birthday party. (I cut the slot, not the kids!)

JewelsHud said...

This sounds like something I could use! Let kids use them as drums (much quieter than real ones). Thanks for the giveaway!

You can reuse the bottles by filling them with water and putting them in the freezer. In the summer, you'll have cold water at the beach or on hikes.

You could add sand in the bottom and turn them into bowling pins for the kids, or add beads and make a shaker instrument. Or maybe use it to hold up a decorative doll. I have NO idea lol.

Thanks for the chance to win! :)
